Choices for Youth (CFY) is a professional service, youth-focused, non-profit, charitable organization that creates spaces and conversations, and operates programs and social enterprises to help vulnerable youth secure stable housing, employment, and education while improving health and family stability. With a focus on prevention, intervention, and support, we help youth and their families break cycles of poverty and homelessness and transition to healthy, stable, and independent lives.


We are seeking to hire one (1) Human Resources Officer to join our Human Resources team. This position is both strategic and a hands-on role that provides Human Resources support to the organization and is critical in executing our Human Resource initiatives, providing employee support, and driving functional excellence and process improvement.


The Human Resources Officer will support the HR team in these five key areas:


1.     Recruitment

2.    Onboarding

3.    Data Management & Analysis

4.    Training and Development

5.    Occupational Health & Safety


This position will also assist in broader responsibilities which involves maximizing effectiveness in daily functional areas, including recruitment and retention, training, on boarding, attendance tracking, compensation and benefits administration, performance support, policy development and maintenance, and employment law compliance.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Support recruitment and selection activities by performing tasks such as: leading interviews, preparation of documents, scheduling interviews, test scheduling, background and reference checks submission, and employee file preparations.

  • Oversee records management including paper and electronic filing, archiving and retrieval of employee documents.

  • Maintain accurate physical and digital employee records while preserving confidentiality.

  • Coordinate the implementation and administration of employee benefits programs such as health insurance, disability, & life insurance, retirement, and other plans as required

  • Assist in the development and implementation of employee recognition / appreciation programs and activities.

  • Maintain and create Health & Safety documentation system including but not limited to policies and procedures, work instructions, training plans, information postings specific to each site.

  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends including HR Metrics within branches/ departments.

  • Actively monitor and pursue funding programs/subsidies which would allow hiring or retraining of staff, improve their effectiveness and gain knowledge in new areas such as technology or operational processes.

  • Provide HR support to committees, projects, and policy/program development as required.

  • Assist in development of overall HR process and workflow procedures by recommending improvements or changes when deemed necessary for greater efficiency.

  • Establish collaborative partnerships with departments to plan, anticipate, and respond in a cost-effective way to changes and priorities.

  • Participate in strategic Human Resource data gathering, data analysis, and strategy development.

  • Support in the daily maintenance and upkeep of the HRIS.

  • Work collaboratively along side the HR team on initiatives and projects for CFY.

  • Complete, edit, proofread, and finalize correspondence, reports, presentations and other documents as requested.

  • Attention to detail and the ability to effectively manage and prioritize a varied workload, ensuring that all deadlines are met.

  • Other duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE


  • Completion of post secondary diploma in a business, human resources, or other related field; a focus in Human Resources, Labour/Industrial Relations or Organizational Development is considered an asset.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant HR experience; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • A proven track record of inclusive excellence, designing and implementing various recruitment, onboarding, and OH&S initiatives, along with building strong and positive relationships.

  • Non-for-Profit work Experience is considered an asset.

  • Direct experience Human Resources operations, facilitating training, and delivering holistic talent strategies to assist leaders with attracting and identifying top talent.

  • Experience with HRIS would be considered an asset.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills under all types of conditions, exhibiting a supportive positive approach, and sensitivity and tact in dealing with staff under stressful situations.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within both an inter-disciplinary team and in a self-directed environment.

  • Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation, statutes, and regulations regarding Human Resources issues.

  • Active Drivers licence and access to a well-maintained vehicle.

  • A satisfactory certificate of conduct and vulnerable sector check is required and must be bondable.


COMPENSATION

 

The salary for this position will be $49,491.00 - $54,990.00 annually. CFY offers a competitive compensation package, including: a health and dental program, employer-matched RRSP and four weeks’ vacation to qualifying employees.

 

WORK HOURS

 

Regular hours of work for this position are Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week). Flexibility in work hours may be required to accommodate higher work volumes and organizational requirements.
