2023 Youth Holiday Dinner

Choices for Youth (CFY) hosted our Annual Youth Holiday Dinner on December 13. An assembly of CFY program participants, their children, significant others, and family members joined CFY team members and volunteers at the CLB Armory to share in an evening that included a delicious meal, performances from talented young people connected to CFY programming, and even a special visit from Santa Claus.

The C.L.B Armoury was transformed into a cozy and festive setting adorned with holiday decorations. Chef Lois from our Outreach and Youth Engagement (OYE) Centre, along with a team of volunteers and partners planned, prepared and provided a delicious holiday dinner that included all the Newfoundland and Labrador favourites – turkey, potatoes, turnip, cabbage, peas pudding, gravy, and even some salt meat.

An aura of community and togetherness filled the space as volunteers served a parade of hungry people that stretched across the Armory. Jenna, a CFY staff member with our OYE program took the stage and introduced a very special treat – a series of live performances from several talented young people in attendance. Guests heard amazing holiday-themed songs from Leo, Shadow, and Yuri, and an original rap from Patrick (check out Patrick’s music on his YouTube channel: Born to Sin - YouTube).

Attendees were delighted when the evening was capped off with a visit from Santa, who shared some extra holiday cheer. The young children were captivated by Santa’s special Christmas book and magic finger, and they eagerly lined up to receive a gift and have their photos taken with Santa. Even some of the older youth (and adults) got in on the fun!

The CFY Annual Youth Holiday Dinner was a joyous evening that served as a reminder of how coming together as a community can add bright, cheerful moments to the long, dark December evenings. CFY would like to extend our warmest thanks to all the organizers, volunteers, and team members who helped coordinate this amazing event.
